Civil War

Yesterday Historical sites include Civil War battle sites.  The Battle of Hartville is rated as a Class D battle on the preservation scale; there were over 400 casualties during the battle at Hartville, January 9-11, 1863. There is an information kiosk along Hwy 5 and a memorial commemorating the burial site of 15 Confederate soldiers.

The Battle at Clark’s Mill or Vera Cruz occurred on November 2, 1862.

The Ozarks and other parts of Missouri were torn by the Civil War because of the location geographically and philosophically in the center of the war action.

During the next few years, the 150 year mark for the Civil War will see reenactment activities all over the Ozarks.
